Hindu weddings

The pheras, lit by the sacred fire.

Haldi, mehndi, sangeet, baraat and the ceremony under the mandap, filmed by a team that has solved the fire's light many times over.

The most demanding light in wedding work

Every vow under the mandap is made before the agni. For a camera, it is also a flickering warm light under colored drapes and spotlights, all fighting each other.

We expose and balance for the fire instead of fighting it. Done badly, a long ceremony turns into a series of shifting orange and green casts. Done well, it reads as one continuous film, and this is where crews most clearly differ.

We also ask a lot of questions. Gujarati, Punjabi, Marathi, Bengali and South Indian Hindu ceremonies follow different orders and use different names, and the central moment is not always the same. We go through your running order with your pandit before the wedding.

Emotion matters as much as exposure. During the kanyadaan, the father, the bride and the groom are all reacting at once, and a crew that only films the joined hands loses most of it.

The wedding weekend

Most Hindu weddings we film run three or four days, and each day has its own character.

  • 01

    Haldi or pithi

Turmeric paste applied by family, called pithi in Gujarati homes. Messy, affectionate and reliably the funniest footage of the week.

  • 02

    Mehndi

Henna for the bride and the women of the family. Covered through details and candid moments rather than posed portraits.

  • 03

    Sangeet or garba

Choreographed family dances, or rounds of garba and raas with dandiya sticks. The biggest party before the wedding.

  • 04

    Baraat

The groom's procession with dhol, sometimes on a horse or in a car, often through a hotel driveway, ending in the bride's family's welcome.

  • 05

    The ceremony

The exchange of garlands, the giving away of the bride, offerings into the havan, the walk around the fire, and finally sindoor and mangalsutra. The core of everything we deliver.

  • 06

    Reception

Cocktail hour, grand entrance, speeches and the first dance as a married couple.

Coverage options

Hindu weddings run long and often in parallel, which is what sets the crew size.

We don't publish prices, because no two multi-day weddings are the same. Tell us your date, your city and how many events you are planning, and we will send an itemized quote with nothing to decode.

Twenty-five years in the room

What Hindu families can expect

Signs that a team has spent real time beside the havan.

  • Built around the fire

We balance for the agni against mandap lighting at a different color temperature, then grade so the ceremony holds together as the flame moves.

  • The pheras are the marriage

Seven steps around the agni are what marry you. Our frame holds both of you and the flame for every one of them, with no cutaways at the decisive step.

  • Regional customs respected

A Gujarati ceremony is not a Punjabi one, and neither is a Tamil thirumanam. Your pandit's running order becomes our shot plan.

Questions

Before you ask.

The mandap is dim and orange. Will the footage hold up?

Yes. We choose lenses and settings for very little light, set color carefully on site, and finish everything with a consistent grade in post. Planning for the mandap's light is what keeps the ceremony consistent from start to finish.

We are Gujarati (or South Indian). Will you know our rituals?

Very likely, but we never rely on memory alone; your pandit confirms the sequence with us. The order, the terms and the pivotal ritual all change by region, and we plan the coverage around your actual sequence.

How long is a Hindu wedding ceremony?

Often between forty-five minutes and two hours, depending on the tradition and the pandit, with a full day built around it. Most couples also book the haldi, mehndi and sangeet.

Can several days become a single film?

Yes, that is our usual approach. Every event is filmed and edited into one feature with a consistent grade, so it plays as chapters of the same wedding.

Is it safe to film close to the fire?

We keep crew and equipment at a sensible distance and follow the pandit's guidance on placement. We get near enough for intimacy and no nearer.
