Bengali weddings
Holud mornings and the families who make them.
Holud, biye or nikkah, and the celebration that follows, covered with an eye for the relatives who give a Bengali wedding its character.
The holud morning matters most
The gaye holud is often the heart of a Bengali wedding film. It is lively, affectionate and completely unscripted, and it can be over in a couple of hours.
Married aunts, mothers and sisters-in-law take turns with the turmeric, each adding a blessing. Nobody is posing, and some of the best material of the whole wedding happens in that room before many crews have finished unpacking.
So we cover it like a documentary rather than a portrait session, with enough crew for both homes on the same morning and enough sense to keep the singing and the mess instead of tidying them away.
Hindu Bengali families celebrate the biye with shubho drishti and mala badal, while Muslim Bengali families hold a nikkah and walima, often with a holud of their own. We ask which traditions you are keeping and plan the weekend around them.
What we cover
Every stage of a Bengali wedding weekend.
- 01
Gaye holud
Yellow paste, folk songs and tattva trays, with a dressed rui fish in many Hindu households. Often the most joyful hour of the weekend.
- 02
The biye
Shubho drishti as the bride lowers the betel leaves from her face, the mala badal and the saat paak. The center of a Hindu Bengali wedding.
- 03
Nikkah
For Muslim Bengali families, the nikkah filmed quietly and at a distance, within the venue's rules.
- 04
Bou bhaat or walima
Hosted by the groom's side to receive the bride into the family, typically a day later and often with the longest guest list.
- 05
The details
Benarasi silk, gold jewelry, shakha and pola bangles, the topor and mukut. Chosen over months, worn for a day.
- 06
Family portraits
The formal groups Bengali families expect, done efficiently so they do not take over the evening.
Coverage options
Two homes on the same morning is usually what sets the crew size.

Travel and accommodation are itemized separately in your written quote.
We don't publish prices, because no two multi-day weddings are the same. Tell us your date, your city and how many events you are planning, and we will send an itemized quote with nothing to decode.

What Bengali families can expect
Coverage shaped by an understanding of the rituals.
We follow the family
The best moments at a holud come from the aunts and cousins: the singing, the teasing, the turmeric. We cover them as the center of the story.
We know whose blessing it is
The turmeric is applied by the married women of the family as a blessing. Knowing who belongs in frame matters.
We keep to the schedule
A morning holud before an afternoon ceremony is common. Our crew is set before the first guest and never the reason a ceremony is delayed.
Questions
Before you ask.
Where does the gaye holud fit in the wedding?
No. It comes before the wedding, sometimes days earlier and sometimes that same morning, and centers on the married women of the family blessing the couple with turmeric paste. It is one of the most affectionate parts of the celebration and well worth filming.
The bride and groom have their holud separately. Can both be filmed?
Yes. With a second crew on the groom's side, neither holud is rushed.
Do you film Muslim Bengali weddings too?
Yes. We have filmed many Bangladeshi weddings, including holud, nikkah and walima, and plan US weddings with the same care. Our Muslim weddings page covers the nikkah in more detail.
How do you handle the holud songs?
Yes. The traditional songs are captured as part of the film's sound, not as background noise.
There are rituals our family would like kept off camera.
Let us know in advance and those moments stay unfilmed. We agree what is filmed and what is left alone before the day.
